Educational Spotlight: Hands On Semninars

By Pressure Positive September 17, 2014 No comments

This month we are focusing the educational spotlight on Hands On Seminars.

With more than 47 years of combined clinical experience, founders, Dimitrios Kostopoulos, PT, PhD, DSc, MCMT and Konstantine Rizopoulos, PT, FABS, MCMT offer Manual Therapy Continuing Education training to improve therapy skills, earn CEUs or earn a Mastery Certification in Manual Therapy (MCMT). Their seminar training and courses are appropriate for PT's, PTAs, OTs, OTAs and Physicians with an interest in the area of Manual Therapy such as DOs and MDs.

Mastery Certification in Manual Therapy (MCMT)

The Mastery Certification in Manual Therapy is a continuing education training program that offers expanded study and clinical practicum in the most important, effective and most widely used areas of Manual Therapy.

Manual Therapy is considered the most effective approach to treat Musculoskeletal Dysfunction. Unlike other training seminars and programs that teach one single approach to the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction, our program offers a unique comprehensive approach that integrates the clinical experience of Dr. Kostopoulos & K. Rizopoulos with some of the teachings of leading manual therapy doctors such as: Travell & Simons, Maitland & Butler, Elvey, Janda, Lewit, Chaitow, Kaltenborn, Paris & others. This program offers to the clinician a series of comprehensive training seminars with immediate clinical applications that enable the clinician to demonstrate competency and become an expert in the subject.

The curriculum is flexible and is designed for the working professional. You can complete the MCMT program in as little as two years from the time you get accepted into the program. Hands-On Seminars also allows two of the courses to be completed as Home Study courses and still be eligible to complete the Mastery Certification in Manual Therapy. Research and Published Articles and Books

Dr. Dimitrios Kostopoulos & Konstantine Rizopoulos, along with their organizations Hands-On Seminars & Hands-On Physical Therapy support research initiatives in the area of Manual Therapy & Rehabilitation. Both companies have an annual allocated budget to support research initiated by employees and associates of their organizations.  At the same time they support research initiatives by the American Physical Therapy Association and the International Myopain Society.

Dr. Kostopoulos is Associate Editor of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies and Hands-On Seminars endorses it as a trusted source for relevant research in Manual Therapies. Additionally, Dr. Kostopolous has authored a textbook on the subject of Trigger Point Therapy and numerous Videos and DVDs on the subjects of Trigger Points and Myofascial Therapy. Most recently, Dr. Kostopolous wrote an article in Advance for Directors in Physical Therapy and Rehab Medicine entitled, "Understanding the Genesis of Trigger Point Pain can Point the Way Towards Relief". Read the full article here for a clinical introduction to the topic of trigger point pain.

Says Allen E. of Houston who attended a course earlier in 2011, "This course changed me. It made me a very effective clinician with immediate responses from ALL of the conditions I see in my practice. It used to be that the average treatment of our patients was 18 visits before they got better and now we are down to 10 visits. I know that this doesn't sound good from a business standpoint but it has actually helped our business due to word of mouth from our patients. Thanks to Hands on Seminars. Our clinical approach to all our patients has become very effective and patients as well as referral sources are very happy. Again. Thank You."

If you are a manual therapist or a clinician with an interest in manual therapy and wondering how to provide your patients with more effective treatment options for their myofascial pain, consider a Master Certification in Manual Therapy from Hands On Seminars and take your practice to the next level.

FOR ACUTE AND SPORTS INJURIES
(a MYO Trigger Point Seminar)
7 NCBTMB Approved CEUs
March 20th in Chicago, IL

We are excited to invite you to our training location at PACIFIC COLLEGE OF ORIENTAL MEDICINE for our upcoming seminar.

Acquire the fastest, most effective pain relief techniques through hands-on training with two leaders in the field:

Sharon Sauer CMTPT, LMT &
Mary Biancalana, MS, CMTPT, LMT, CPT
Register by March 10th for the Early Bird Discount!!!

After completing this workshop, you will be able to:

• Contrast the differences between standard practice for acute and sports injuries- RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) and the methods of the myofascial trigger point therapist MICE (MTrP Therapy, Ice, Compression, Exercise)....RICE is nice, MICE is better!!
• Explain why trigger point techniques can help the athlete get back into the game within 15-30 minutes of being injured
• Demonstrate how to deactivate trigger points in muscles that refer to an injured area
• Demonstrate understanding of 15 minute myofascial quick fix protocols by: putting muscle tissue "on the stretch" and doing gentle compression over general area, performing gentle or deep gliding strokes with a lubricant, spraying vapocoolant, or ice followed by heat
• Demonstrate how to objectively measure improvements in pain levels and range of motion using a tape measure, pressure algometer and goniometer.
• Understand how many athletes mistake pain in an area for an injury. Myofascial pain can be debilitating, but it does not mean an area is "injured."
• Learn how to communicate with practitioners like Personal Trainers and Athletic Trainers, who work with athletes. Learn how to help them keep their clients pain free and fully functional and in tip-top performance shape.

Powerful and Effective Relief for Low Back Pain
Learn the secrets to lasting pain relief: finding and deactivating trigger points, the underlying cause of most low back pain. Trigger points are sensitive tight spots in taut bands of muscle tissue. Treating trigger points that refer pain to the low back and buttock areas, rather than addressing only the specific sites of your pain, is the best way to comprehensively treat occasional or chronic discomfort and prevent it from coming back.

Packed with illustrated treatment techniques, Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain offers effective strategies beginners can practice at home and detailed hands-on protocols health care practitioners can use while working with patients. Find out which of eleven muscles could be causing back pain, then learn specific trigger point massage treatments to immediately relieve soreness and tension in these muscles. If you're ready to try a targeted approach to eliminating back pain, this manual will provide you with all the information you need to get started and end low back discomfort once and for all.

"This book does modern medicine a great service... [and is] presented effectively for the primary reader, the patient."
-David G. Simons, MD, associate voluntary professor at Emory University and coauthor of The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook

"Sharon Sauer and Mary Biancalana have written a marvelous book that takes the reader from low back pain symptoms to self-management. They have given us a gold-mine of information in a user-friendly format. The workbook includes detailed illustrations that are wonderful guides to treatment. Their work is based on the time-tested insights of Janet Travell and David Simons, whose wisdom graces the pages of this fine manual. I can recommend this book to all who suffer from occasional or chronic low back pain."
-Robert D. Gerwin, MD, associate professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD

"This book does modern medicine a great service by beginning to fill the enormous chasm of missing literature on low back pain. The skilled authors emphasize its cause and illustrate effective treatments. The book is organized with eloquent headings and presented effectively for the primary reader, the patient."
-David G. Simons, MD, associate voluntary professor at Emory University and coauthor of The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook

"This book is for everyone from the layperson with low back pain to the medical practitioner who wants to learn effective treatments for myofascial pain. The authors have covered all the essentials: understanding pain that comes from trigger points, examining yourself or your patients, and developing a treatment plan. This book features clear illustrations with descriptions of pain patterns, self-care, exercises and professional techniques that really work. This is a must for everyone who experiences low back pain or treats it professionally!"
-Angelique C. Mizera, DO, Swedish Covenant Pain Center in Chicago, IL
