Research
In 1983 Drs. Janet G. Travell and David G. Simons published their seminal work, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual. In the intervening twenty five years, new research and broadly expanded clinical attention to myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in neuro-musculoskeletal medicine have contributed greatly to a better understanding of MTrPs and their treatment world wide.
The Pressure Positive Company is committed to the effectiveness of non-invasive modalities in the treatment of patients with myofascial pain due to MTrPs, with particular attention to self care approaches. At this time the evidence for effectiveness of non-invasive therapies for MTrPs is limited to only a relatively few studies. Nevertheless, in this section of our website we offer you the very best on line sources for examining all the current relevant research on MTrPs.
Of particular interest to those wanting to understand more about MTrPs is a recent article by leaders in the field of manual therapy, Jan Dommerholt, PT, MPS, FAAPM, Carel Bron, PT, and Jo Franssen, PT. The article received the 2006 OPTP Award for Excellence for a Published Review in the Literature. According to Dr. David G. Simons, “this comprehensive review of TrPs is head and shoulders above anything else in recent literature.” We are most grateful to the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapists for allowing us to make this article, in its entirety, available to our site visitors.
